Morning Star Lutheran Chapel
Let Our Chapel Be a Part of Your Story
Beautiful, Unique, & Welcoming
Entering the historic Morning Star Lutheran Chapel is like taking a step back in time – to a period when churches were crafted by hand, with a combination of beauty and simplicity.
The chapel dates back to 1906 and is among a handful of remaining Gothic Revival churches in the Charlotte region, yet it also has all the modern conveniences needed for weddings, other types of religious services, family gatherings, and community meetings.
The chapel retains its historic feel, with original heart-of-pine floors and leaded glass windows. It is furnished with a piano and organ and has beautiful acoustics for non-amplified instrumental and vocal music. It's adjacent to the chapel gardens and prayer labyrinth. The chapel connects to a modern gathering space, rest rooms, and a small kitchen. The chapel can seat about 85 people (65 in the pews, 20 more in chairs), and the meeting room has a capacity of about 40.
Church records show members arriving by horse and buggy, but today’s visitors enjoy a shady, paved parking lot and a brick walkway through the wooded cemetery. An $800,000 renovation in 2004, made possible through a bequest from the late Ruth Rice Teeter, a Morning Star member, has modernized the chapel facility.
The chapel and gathering room have HVAC and AV capability. The facility has a handicap-accessible entrance, sidewalks and appropriate parking.
Morning Star Lutheran Church's main campus is west of the chapel on Idlewild Road, but the church still holds Thanksgiving Eve, Easter Vigil and Easter SonRise services at the chapel each year.
We think you’ll find the beautiful old chapel with its modern conveniences a great place for the special event in your lives – and a chance to add your family history to the great story of Morning Star Lutheran Church.
